70-Year-Old Man Suspected Of Fatally Slashing Wife In San Jacinto: RSO

The man was standing outside the couple's apartment when deputies arrived.

SAN JACINTO, CA — A 70-year-old man was behind bars after his dead wife was found slashed in their San Jacinto apartment.

The investigation began shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday when deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 1700 block of S. Santa Fe Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Once at the scene, deputies went inside the couple's unit and found the dead woman with "multiple sharp force injuries," the sheriff's department reported.

The victim was identified as 71-year-old Ruth Liera, and her death was determined to be a domestic violence incident at the hands of her husband, Lorenzo Liera, according to the sheriff's department.

The man was in front of the apartment when deputies arrived and was later arrested on suspicion of murder, the sheriff's department reported.

A possible motive for the apparent killing was not released.

Jail records for Liera were unavailable Thursday night.
