California Highway Patrol officers based in the San Gorgonio Pass are planning a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the San Jacinto-Hemet area this weekend, a spokesman for the agency announced Wednesday June 5.
The checkpoint is scheduled from 9 p.m. Saturday June 8 to 3 a.m. Sunday June 9, CHP Officer Darren Meyer said in a statement.
"The sobriety checkpoint will be conducted by numerous CHP officers who are highly trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers," Meyer said.
"Officers will also be equipped with hand held breath testing devices which provide an accurate measure of blood-alcohol concentration of suspected drunk drivers," Meyer said.
Alleged offenders will be processed at the checkpoint and booked at either Smith Correctional in Banning or Southwest Detention Facility in Murrieta, according to Meyer.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
