House Fire Incident Leads To Lethal Force In Moreno Valley
Deputies involved in the fatal shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave, according to the sheriff's department policy.
MORENO VALLEY, CA — A person who allegedly set fire to a Moreno Valley home was shot and killed by deputies Sunday.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, calls started coming in at 12:35 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses were reporting that someone inside a home in the 16000 block of Heather Glen Road was setting fire to the residence.
When deputies arrived at the scene, the house was fully engulfed in flames, the sheriff's department reported.

There were reports that the person who allegedly set the fire was "in the rear of the residence," so deputies moved to the home's backyard and found "a subject lying on the ground," according to the sheriff's department.
"Deputies gave commands, but the subject failed to comply, pointed a firearm, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred," the law enforcement agency reported. "The suspect was struck by gunfire, and deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived."

The person was transported to an area hospital but did not survive. The deceased's identity was not released. No other injuries were reported.
