YUCAIPA, CA — Inland Empire shoppers looking for staples with a twist will have a new treasure trove to explore Thursday when Trader Joe's opens in Yucaipa.

To mark the launch, the store – large enough to hold two full basketball courts – will be celebrating with a brief ribbon cutting at 8:55 a.m. before doors open for the first time at 9 a.m.

Headquartered in California, the Trade Joe’s chain sells packaged, frozen, and fresh food, as well as alcoholic beverages and personal items. Many of the staples are packaged under the Trader Joe’s label at prices competitive with to other grocery chains.

According to an announcement released by the company, the Yucaipa Trade Joe’s hired more than 50 residents from areas surrounding Yucaipa and transferred employees from other neighboring locations.

As part of its Neighborhood Shares Program, the company pledged to donate all unsold but still fresh products to non-profit, community-based organizations, according to the announcement. This is above the baseline required in California.

The Yucaipa Pointe shopping center is located at 31545 Yucaipa Blvd. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
