Pedestrian Struck, Killed In Moreno Valley

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A pedestrian pushing a shopping cart on a Moreno Valley street was struck and killed, authorities said Wednesday.

The fatality occurred about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday on Indian Street, just north of Hemlock Avenue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sgt. Robert Grmusha said that the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was pushing his cart north in the northbound traffic lane on Indian when a 2005 Toyota Scion XB approached him from behind, traveling at an unknown speed.

The Toyota struck the victim in the roadway, and the driver, also not identified, immediately stopped, according to Grmusha.

He said county fire paramedics arrived minutes later and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

The motorist was uninjured and was questioned by deputies.

"It was undetermined if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision, pending toxicology tests," the sergeant said.

The driver was not arrested.
