Ramsey Street Business Owner in Banning Hosts Benefit for Fallen Friend

A business owner on West Ramsey Street in Banning held a car wash benefit Saturday June 8 for a friend and associate who recently passed away, Joe Rodriguez of J & J Classics in San Bernardino.

"He was not only a friend, but he was supplier for our business," Louie Lopez, 38, of G Motor Sports said Saturday afternoon. "He supplied all our Chevy Impala parts . . . He was from Los Angeles, California, born and raised, but his business was in San Bernardino. He was about my age, he was young."

Lopez and others brought their customized cars, including the lowrider "Freakshow," which Lopez proudly posed with. Lopez said the car wash drew a decent crowd and he decided to extend the benefit to accomodate everyone who wanted to take part in the benefit for Rodriguez.

"We were supposed to shut it down, but we had extra people come by, so we're just going to hang in there for a little," Lopez said. "They're also going to have a car wash over there for him in San Bernardino tomorrow. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the corner of Mt. Vernon and Ninth."

Lopez said he's been in business eight years, and he's been in Banning the last four.

"We do full restorations and sound systems," Lopez said.

G Motor Sports is at 2772 W. Ramsey St., and J & J Classics is at 871 N Mt Vernon Ave., San Bernardino.
