RivCo Heat Wave Brings Year's Hottest Temperatures
A heat wave this weekend is expected to usher in the hottest days recorded so far this year in the Coachella Valley and San Gorgonio Pass.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Triple-digit temperatures are expected to continue Saturday in the Riverside County metropolitan area, the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning and the Coachella Valley as a result of a heat wave that will keep those areas scorching hot through Monday.
A strong system of high pressure is building over Arizona and New Mexico, ushering in sweltering heat in most of Southern California through Monday, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning that will be in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Monday in the Coachella Valley and the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, while a heat advisory will last from 10 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Sunday in the Riverside metropolitan area.

NWS officials urged residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Also, young children, senior and pets should never be left unattended in a vehicle parked during the day, with car interiors able to reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
High temperatures Saturday are forecast to reach 118 degrees in the Coachella Valley, 106 in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, 105 in Hemet, 103 in Riverside, 102 in Lake Elsinore, 99 in Temecula and 90 in Idyllwild. Sunday's highs will be 117 in a number of Coachella Valley communities.

Slight cooling will arrive on Tuesday and continue through Thursday, forecasters said.
Cooling centers open
Meanwhile, cooling centers will be open throughout Riverside County.
Currently, 15 such facilities are in operation countywide. In some years, more than 50 shelters have been available, but because of COVID-19 concerns, fewer are open this summer.
