The 23-year-old woman was expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon. The child's parents did not know her.

FONTANA, CA — A 23-year-old woman remained jailed Tuesday after she allegedly tried to kidnap a 4-year-old child in Fontana.

Sariaha Hannah Lopez of San Bernardino was being held at West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and was expected to make an initial court appearance Tuesday on a charge of attempted kidnapping. She also faces a parole violation charge.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, just after 6 p.m. Sunday, a Fontana Sheriff's Station deputy responded to a call for service about the alleged attempted kidnapping in the 15300 block of Ceres Avenue. The area is a mix of residential and commercial businesses.

Neither the child nor the father was injured in the melee, but the child's mother "sustained injuries to her face and upper body as a result of being attacked by Lopez while Lopez attempted to take the child by force," the sheriff's department reported.

According to sheriff's department spokesperson Mara Rodriguez, the child's parents did not know Lopez.

During questioning, it was determined that Lopez was on active parole for assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon, the sheriff's department said. She was sent to Kaiser Hospital in Fontana for treatment of injuries and was later transported to county jail for booking.
