Wildlands Conservancy's 'Behold the Beauty' to be Featured at Smiley Library

A representative for the Wildlands Conservancy of Oak Glen plans to present the book Behold the Beauty later this month at A. K. Smiley Public Library.

Paul Melzer, a mission advancement fundraiser with the conservancy, is scheduled to speak at 6 p.m. Tuesday June 18th in Smiley's assembly room, librarian Daniel Slota said in an announcement.

The Wildlands Conservancy owns and operates California's largest nonprofit nature preserve system. The preserve system includes a dozen landscapes covering more than 145,000 acres of mountain, valley, desert, river and ocean front properties.

Melzer recently attempted 24 peaks in 24 hours on Yucaipa Ridge and in the San Gorgonio Wilderness.

Melzer, a seasoned mountain runner and resident of Redlands, made two attempts in a four-day span and had to turn back short of his goal in both cases. He recently blogged about the experience, acknowledging he'd met his limits but he was not daunted by them.

The June 18 event is free. Smiley Public Library is at 125 W. Vine St.
