83-Year-Old Belmont Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Minivan
An elderly woman was struck and killed by a minivan while crossing El Camino Real at Fifth Avenue Friday morning in Belmont.
BELMONT, CA -- An elderly woman was struck and killed by a minivan while crossing El Camino Real in Belmont Friday morning, according to police.
No other vehicles were involved and the driver of the minivan was uninjured and has cooperated with investigators, according to the Belmont Police Dept.
The incident occurred at about 6:45 AM on Friday, May 3, just before Belmont Police responded to a report of an auto-pedestrian collision on El Camino Real at Fifth Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, an 83-year-old San Carlos woman prone in the roadway.

The woman, whose name was not released by authorities, was treated at the scene by San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department paramedics and then taken to an area hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The driver, an 80-year-old San Mateo woman whose name was not released, remained on scene following the collision and is cooperating with investigators, police say.
The pedestrian, who was using a walker, appears to have been crossing El Camino eastbound on the south side of the intersection, where there is no marked crosswalk. The driver was southbound on El Camino in a 2000 Toyota Sienna minivan, when she struck the woman in the intersection.

The portion of southbound El Camino between Harbor Boulevard and Fifth Avenue was closed to traffic until about noon for the on-scene investigation. Belmont PD was assisted at the scene by personnel from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.
