Belmont Officials Urge Residents To Engage In Election Changes
As Belmont prepares to transition to district elections, the city is encouraging residents to engage in the process.
BELMONT, CA — As Belmont prepares to transition to district elections, the city is encouraging residents to engage in the process, including attending an in-person community outreach presentation Saturday morning.
The city is changing from having five councilmembers elected at large to having four councilmembers elected by district and a mayor elected at-large. The first district elections will be held in November 2022.
Residents can attend an in-person meeting on the subject at the Twin Pines Senior Center, 20 Twin Pines Lane, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Transitioning to district-based elections will ensure the method of electing councilmembers complies with the California Voting Rights Act and will resolve a legal challenge to the current at-large election process.
Residents can also get involved in the process by attending city council meetings, which are held online on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month. Additionally, the city offers an online district map drawing tool and other district election information on its website.
