Mid-Peninsula High School, an independent high school located in Menlo Park, is celebrating the arts on June 29 with an afternoon of piano chamber music. The program of classical masterpieces will feature renowned Japanese pianist Makiko Ooka.

The event, which will be held in a private home in Los Altos, is part of the school's capital campaign to build a new performing arts center on the Willow Road campus.

Accompanying Ms. Ooka will be Mid-Pen Parent, Lucinda Breed Lenicheck, principal cellist of Opera San Jose, and her colleagues, violinist Yasuko Hattori, formerly of the San Francisco Symphony; distinguished local violist Noriko Iwamoto, and concert flutist Beverly Radin.

Mid-Pen is a community for learning, that offers students a stimulated, nurturing, safe environment that empowers them to reach their full academic and social potential. Mid-Pen embodies a different approach to learning, one that values collaboration along with individuality and creativity.

Students and staff members embrace the core values of Respect, Kindness, Acceptance, and Responsibility. Mid-Peninsula High School has embarked on a Capital Campaign to raise money for a Performing Arts Center. This is an extremely exciting project as the school plans to add 1,804 sq ft classroom space, 306 sq ft music area, 1,498 sq ft drama area, and a 200 seat amphitheater.

Plans call for an outdoor theater and indoor black box theater for year round use. Architect and former Mid-Pen trustee, John Northway, is designing the building. The additional space will also allow two classrooms in the main building to be rededicated for academic programs.
