City Receives Grant for Pedestrian/Bicycle Masterplan
The plan calls for a safe bike and pedestrian environment throughout Belmont.

Belmont's Department of Public Works has secured a $35,000 grant for development of the city’s first ever comprehensive pedestrian and bicycle plan. According to the City Manager's Weekly Update, the plan is to create a safe, comfortable bicycle and pedestrian friendly environment to walk and bicycle in Belmont.
Belmont will be required to match the grant funds with an addition $35,000 from the City’s Measure A funds. Once the grant award is complete, the city will begin the project by next summer.
The study Plan will involve:
- Plan and policy review
- Obtaining community input
- Conducting surveys & data collection
- Counts of bicyclists and pedestrians at key intersections
- Conduct walking audits
- Identify deficiencies in existing sidewalk
- Context sensitive gap analysis
- Analyze high collision and injury locations
- Identification of specific pedestrian and bicycle improvements
- Prioritization of improvements based on existing plans, policies, safety and community input
