Reminder: Common Core Parent Ed Meeting Tonight
The BRSSD Education Team will host a panel discussion of the state's new standards for teaching math, English, history, science and technical subjects.

To help prepare parents and guardians in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District (BRSSD) for the upcoming Common Core Curriculum that will be debuted in the 2013/14 school year, the PTA Council will host a Parent Education Event on Nov. 18.
BRSSD superintendent, Dr. Michael Milliken, will lead the panel discussion on the Common Core Standards in the Ralston Middle School multi-use room beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In addition to Milliken, the discussion will feature the district's education team, comprised of Chuck Velschow, vice president of the school board, Robert Sherman, principal of Redwood Shores Elementary, Maria Lang-Gavidia, director of Special Programs, Tracy Sola, teacher at Ralston Middle School, Mary Natoli, teacher at Ralston Middle School
The evening's event will be moderated by Michelle Stulbarg, president of PTA Council.
The Common Core State Standards initiative is a U.S. education initiative that seeks to bring diverse state curricula into alignment with each other by following the principles of standards-based education reform.
The purpose of the Common Core Standards is to ensure that students are college and career ready in literacy no later than the end of high school.
The stated goal of the mathematics standards is to achieve greater focus and coherence in the curriculum. This is largely in response to the criticism that American mathematics curricula are "a mile wide and an inch deep".
The event is open to parents and guardians of all grade level students.
