City Helps Demystify Sewer Laterals

An information page on the new sewer lateral program is now available on the City of Belmont's website.


In June, the the City of Belmont kicked off a new sewer lateral program to protect the city’s sewer infrastructure, and to protect the consumer from any unforeseen problems with their underground pipes. 

As part of the city's outreach efforts, the Public Works Department has created a “Private Sewer Lateral Information” page on the Belmont website.

Sewer laterals are the privately owned underground pipes that connect a business or residence to the city sewer system.

According to the Belmont Public Works Dept., the sewer lateral program is part of a larger system-wide effort to help prevent sanitary sewer overflows and sewer backups, eliminate storm water inflow and groundwater infiltration into the sanitary sewer system.
