Nathanael (Nate) Denys sustains brain injury - Update 7/17/22

Long time resident of Belmont Nathanael (Nate) Denys sustains brain injury.

Update July 17, 2022

One month after the accident and Nate remains at Stanford ICU. He has on a few occasion shown signs of responsiveness to communication, verbal command and moved some extremities. He has undergone a tracheotomy, several CT scans and a couple MRI. The doctors continue to review all the scans to better treat Nate. Although we know things are invariably changing, we are waiting patiently, and remain hopeful that he will again move his body, acknowledge us, and consistently respond to commands, and verbal communication.

We are extremely grateful for the moral and financial support we have received.

On June 16, 2022 our son Nathanael (Nate) Denys was involved in an accident that resulted in a major brain injury. He underwent emergency craniotomy at Stanford Hospital to relieve swelling and bleeding. As of June 30, 2022 Nate remains sedated at Stanford ICU. His swelling has subsided and he is mostly breathing on his own with little assistance from the respirator.

Nate was born in 1993 and spent his entire childhood, teenage and early adult years in Belmont. He is a graduate of Ralston Middle School (2007), Carlmont High School (2011) and the University of California Irvine (2015) where he graduated with a Business Economics degree. Along with his brothers Matthew (Matt) and Andrew (Drew), Nate played in the Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League (district 52) at all levels and enjoyed friendships with many in Belmont.

Our prayer is for Nate's healing and recovery. We know the road ahead for him will be challenging. Once he is discharged from Stanford he will likely be moved to a long term care facility for physical and vocational rehabilitation.

His loving girlfriend Amanda Nygard has setup a Go Fund Me page where you can read more about Nate and his current condition. We humbly ask for your financial support for his current and future medical and rehabilitation expenses. The link below will direct you to his Go Fund me page. Please also include Nate in your prayers.

Thank-you for your consideration,

Ernest, Maria, Matthew, Andrew Denys and Amanda Nygard.
