Paint Spill Cleaned Up by City Crews

The spill ran down Ralston Avenue from Notre Dame Avenue to Chula Vista.

The trail of white paint that cascaded down the eastbound lanes of Ralston Avenue has been cleaned up by crews from the city's Public Works Department.

According to City Manager's Weekly Update newsletter, the spill, which occurred last week on Ralston Avenue between Notre Dame Avenue and Chula Vista. It's unclear who spilled it, but City Manager Greg Scoles said the latex paint was similar to that used by the city for traffic markings.

According to Scoles, there aren't many options for cleaning up this type of paint without damaging the pavement, however, after exploring several options, the Public Works Traffic Operations Division began removing the spill on Thursday with good success. Work was performed in the eastbound lane and traffic was diverted to the center lane around the work area.

Proper measures were in place from preventing the water used during the operations going down the storm drain. The crew stationed the Vactor truck to collect the water onsite, and preventing it from going down into the storm system.
