Belmont Public Works Crews--The City's Invisible Heroes

Who removes a city's graffiti, fills its pot holes, repairs its street lights, paints its red curbs, inspects AND cleans its sewer pump stations? Your friendly Belmont Public Works crews, that's who.

Those barricades that kept traffic at bay and crowds flowing smoothly at Sunday's Save the Music Festival didn't just appear---they were delivered, set up, and taken down by one crews from the Belmont Public Works Department. And that's just one of the jobs they tackled last week.

Here's a look at some of the heavy lifting the men and women of the Belmont Public Works Department did over the course of one week (Sept. 29-Oct. 6):

Public Works Weekly Maintenance Highlights

Sewer/Storm DivisionSewer Division
• Jetted 10,007 feet of sewer main
• Videoed 3,985 feet of sewer main
• Inspected and cleaned 11 Sewer pump stations
• The service truck (205) responded to 9 calls for private sewer lateral backups and one manhole cover inspection. 

Storm Division
• Videoed 384 feet storm mains
• Inspected and cleaned 2 Storm pump stations.
• Inspected a combined total of 80 storm drain inlets and storm manholes. 

Traffic Operations
• Painted 1,624 feet Red Curb
• Fabricated 12 new signs 
• Delivered 51 barricades and signs for the Save the Music Festival. 
• Trimmed shrubbery around 8 signs
• Removed graffiti from sign at 10 locations• Replaced 2 stop signs
• Replaced sign pole 
• Repaired 4 street lights
• Poured new street light foundation 
• Programed 4 generator transfer switches
• Installed Belmont creek pressure transducer 

Streets Division
• Repaired pot holes on Desvio Way, Lyon Avenue, Holly Street, Hillman Avenue, North Road and Hasting Drive
• Filled 10 pallet loads of sand bags for storm preparation 
• Crack sealed 1000 feet of roadway
• Poured new street light foundation
