A security guard shot a San Carlos man Monday night during a scuffle over suspected shoplifting, according to the sheriff's office.

SAN CARLOS, CA — A security guard shot and injured a robbery suspect at the San Carlos Home Depot on Monday night, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

At about 10 p.m., employees of the store at 1125 Old County Road confronted 26-year-old Jonathan Mackey because they believed he was shoplifting, sheriff's officials said.

The confrontation led to a scuffle, during which Mackey allegedly got ahold of a security guard's collapsible baton and used it to hit him in the head and face, according to the sheriff's office.
