A Walk On The Zombie Side
With one foot in the grave, Long Beach steps it up in pursuit of a weird world record.
Downtown Long Beach was perhaps never more dead than it was Saturday night, as thousands of zombie-wannabes filled The Promenade for the city's fourth annual Zombie Walk.
The all-day, all-ages event featured a street festival and an attempt at breaking two world records: for the largest "zombie walk" (4,700 participants, held by Seattle) and the largest choreographed "Thriller" mass dance (11,000 participants, held by Brazil). Makeup artists were also on hand to offer parade participants a total zombie makeover.
Long Beach Cinematheque and its midnight cinema program, Mondo Celluloid, sponsored the free event.
