Could Boeing Build 777X Jetliner in Long Beach?
Boeing's historic facility at the Long Beach Airport is now in the running for assembly of the new Boeing 777X. Work on the C-17 transport is scheduled to end in 2015.

Boeing's factory in Long Beach could be used to build the new 777X Jetliner after union workers in Seattle rejected a contract extension.
Aviation Week & Space Technology, an influential industry publication, reported Thursday that facilities in Long Beach, Charleston, SC, and Huntsville, AL, are now under consideration after the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers in Seattle voted Wednesday to reject a long-term contract extension.
After the vote, Long Beach City Council member Gerrie Schipske urged the city to offer Boeing a plan to bring 777X assembly work to the soon-to-be-vacant plant at the Long Beach Airport.
“The ongoing process of determining where the Boeing 777X will be built underscores the reason why the City of Long Beach should actively pursue an agreement with Boeing to bring the work here," she said in a statement.
Boeing currently builds C-17 transports for the Air Force in Long Beach, but production is scheduled to end in 2015.
