Widespread reports of the white balls covering lawns, soon melting, as temps inched down to the low 40s.
After rain, thunder and dazzling lightning, hail fell like a dusting snow in North Long Beach, and other parts of the 50-aquare-mile city.
But in case you were planning on a "White Christmas" in the land of palm trees, you might have seen a white backyard and watched it persist for some time before it melted.
