Slideshow: Snow Hotdogs on a Cool 'Beach' Day
College skiers and snowboarders took on four dozen challengers from other universities Thursday in the first "Long Beach State Ride the Rails Jam."
The shredding happened before the skiing started Thursday. About 15 tons of ice blocks were shaved down and blown into a short ski run over the Cal State Long Beach Pyramid stairs. The fun was dreamed up by the 49er Snow team of skiiers and snow boarders, who turned a school-bound weekday into sport.
