Teenage Boyfriend, 2 Others, Charged in Attacks on Pregnant Girlfriend

The 17-year-old boy allegedly conspired with two other women to attack his girlfriend to get her to miscarry.

LONG BEACH, CA -- A 17-year-old teenage boy and two women are charged with allegedly attacking the boy’s girlfriend to try to induce her into a miscarriage, prosecutors said.

Angel Contreras, 17, allegedly conspired with Claudia Rodriguez, 18, and Candy Patricio, 19, to attack his pregnant girlfriend, according to Deputy District Attorney Troy Davis.

The attack happened on March 4 where Rodriguez and Patricio allegedly accosted the pregnant girlfriend and punched her in the stomach, Davis said.

The victim, who was 13 weeks pregnant at the time of the attack, did not miscarry, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani said.

The pair then attacked the victim again three weeks later as she getting off the bus and walking home. Rodriguez and Patricio tried to the drag the victim into their car but was stopped by a passerby, Davis said.

Contreras, Rodriguez and Patricio are charged with two counts each of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder, along with one count each of kidnapping and assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.

The relationship between the three was not released because of the pending investigation, Ardalani

It was not immediately clear when Contreras -- who is charged as an adult -- was arrested, but Rodriguez and Patricio were each arrested May 5 by Long Beach police and have remained behind bars on a $4.13 million bond since then.
