Brentwood Brownie Troop Receives Merit Badges From Sen. Ted Lieu
Brentwood Community Council recognizes Kenter Canyon Brownie Troop 12755 for refurbishing the land next to the post office.

The Brentwood Community Council recognized Kenter Canyon Brownie Troop 12755 for planting a garden at the Barrington Station Post Office.
"The Girl Scouts planted a beautiful garden," said Nancy Freedman, president.
Their efforts did not go unrecognized by State Sen. Ted Lieu, who happened to be attending the community council meeting Tuesday, June 4 to discuss matters from Sacramento. He awarded the troop with their community service merit badges.
The girls removed 17 bags of refuse, planted 60 new plants, spread 20 bags of mulch and swept and removed dead leaves form the sidewalk along Barrington Avenue in front of the building. The troop has been preparing for the project since January, when they dedicated a portion of their annual cookie sale profits to cleaning up the post office and re-landscaping the area.
After selling more than 3,000 boxes of cookies, the troop asked Brentwood-based certified arborist Lisa Smith, who consults on the care of Brentwood's Coral Trees, to volunteer her time with a landscape plan. The Brownies were able to complete the entire project for less than $1,000.
However, a man who shares the plot of land next to the post office removed the garden planted by the Brownie troop. The troop leader called the girls "resilient."
