Pali Father and Son Earn L.A. Area Emmy Nominations

Two Pacific Palisades residents, Larry Newman and his son Tyler, earned nominations to the Los Angeles Area Emmys in the children/youth category for their documentary on the All Schools Elementary Honor Orchestra titled Orchestra Kids 2012.

Larry Newman and his son Tyler received nominations in the Children/Youth category for their documentary on the All Schools Elementary Honor Orchestra entitled Orchestra Kids 2012. Nearly 30 students from Brentwood helped produce the film.

“Tyler’s association with the orchestra began when he was in pre-school," said Larry. "He was a violinist in the group for seven years. He finally outgrew that role so he started helping me on the production side."

Tyler worked as a cameraman and editor for the past several years and Newman recently brought his son on as a producer.

A senior this fall at Pali High, the younger Newman was the winner of the Creative Visions Film Festival and is owner of Pali Pictures, a video production company.

This is the fifth nomination in six years for Larry Newman for his production of the annual children’s concert from Schoenberg Hall at UCLA. He is founder of Children's Music Workshop and coordinates elementary band and orchestra programs in more than two dozen area schools, including Kenter Canyon Elementary School, UCLA Lab and Paul Revere Charter Middle School.

Emmy winners will be announced at the awards show on Saturday, August 3 at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in North Hollywood.
