29 Drivers Stopped During Peninsula DUI Saturation Patrol

The patrol took place from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. last Friday.

BURLINGAME, CA -- Nearly 30 vehicles were stopped last Friday night during a DUI Saturation Patrol held in the Peninsula area. The increased enforcement happened between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. in an effort to lower incidents of impaired driving, according to the Burlingame Police Department.

Police said officers conducted 29 enforcement stops and two drivers were given field sobriety tests. One driver was cited for driving while unlicensed.

Studies of California drivers have shown that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more
drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair
driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent). Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at
7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol, police said.
