Acclaimed Peninsula Indian Restaurant Returns Home
The Michelin-starred Rasa, once named the Bay Area's best Indian restaurant, will celebrate its grand return in Burlingame on Tuesday.

BURLINGAME, CA — A beloved Peninsula Indian restaurant is reopening Tuesday, welcoming diners to embark on the next chapter of the Michelin-starred Rasa.
According to Eater SF, the acclaimed South Indian spot first opened in Burlingame in 2016 and closed in 2022, converting into the second outpost of its North Indian-centered sister restaurant, Saffron.
Two years later, founders Ajay Walia and Reena Miglani are bringing Rasa back to its Burlingame home, promising a reimagined experience, fusing modern Indian cuisine with dishes traditional to coastal South India.

According to the restaurant, Walia worked with chef Vivek Tamhane to craft the new menu, featuring signature dishes that include a two-foot-long dosa with spiced potato masala hash and a duck confit biryani. Other bites include a braised lamb shank with autumn greens and gravy and "Rasa Sliders" with spiced potato fritters, tamarind and chutney.
Appetizers are priced between $16 and $30, with entrees ranging from $26 to $62. Rasa will be open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner service, with Mondays available for private events.
