Burlingame Man Arrested On Charges Of Brandishing Knife, Making Threats

A Burlingame man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a knife and threatening another person during a dispute over money, police said.

BURLINGAME, CA — A Burlingame man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly brandishing a knife and threatening another person during a dispute over money, San Mateo police said.

Officers responded about 10:41 a.m. to the 300 block of Villa Terrace following a report of a person threatening someone with a knife. Police said the victim told officers the altercation involved known parties and stemmed from a perceived debt.

The suspect, identified as Emil Morales Garcia, 41, allegedly threatened to stab the victim before leaving the scene in a vehicle prior to officers' arrival.

Police later located Morales Garcia near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and South Ellsworth Avenue, where officers conducted a traffic stop and detained him.

Investigators said they established probable cause to arrest him for making criminal threats and brandishing a deadly weapon.

During a consent search of the vehicle, officers recovered a black folding knife that was later identified by the victim as the weapon allegedly used in the incident, police said.

Morales Garcia was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicions of criminal threats and brandishing a deadly weapon other than a firearm.
