Hillsborough Using Smoke This Week To Test Sanitary Sewer System

Hillsborough this week is using smoke-based testing to identify and remove sources of rain or groundwater in the sanitary sewer system.

HILLSBOROUGH, CA -- The Town is continuing it's sanitary sewer smoke testing project this week. The purpose of smoke testing is to identify and remove sources of rain or groundwater in the sanitary sewer system.

Smoke testing is an efficient and cost-effective way to locate and identify the source of storm water infiltration problems.

The smoke used is a non-toxic substance that is harmless to humans, pets, food and material items. If smoke does enter the home, it should clear in a few minutes with proper ventilation. It is possible that the smoke could cause a smoke detector or fire alarm to go off for a moment.
