Keep Your Car Safe

Reports of car break-ins and thefts of belongings from unlocked vehicles are common in the Burlingame Police Log.

Did you know that there are some burglars who specifically target cars? According to The Burlingame Crime Prevention Connection March newsletter, there’s no way to know exactly what draws a burglar to a specific car, but there are steps drivers can take to dissuade a would-be thief.

Drivers should take care to park in well-lit, highly visible locations, and make sure to hit that lock button.

Most burglars won’t go through the trouble of breaking in to a car without the suggestion of a reward for their efforts, like a purse or laptop bag left on a seat. Make sure there are no visible valuable items in the car. If the burglar can’t see anything worth taking, chances are he or she will move on to another car.
