Person Of Interest Interviewed After Officer Ambushed, Shot In Hillsborough: Police

HILLSBOROUGH, CA — Police interviewed a person of interest Sunday in connection with a shooting that sent a Hillsborough officer to the hospital the day before, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, when the officer was struck by gunfire in the back parking lot of the police department in the 1600 block of Floribunda Avenue, according to authorities, who said the officer was ambushed. The officer returned fire and the shooter fled on foot, police said.
The officer was taken to San Francisco General Hospital and was expected to make a full recovery, according to police.

Throughout Saturday night and early Sunday morning, investigators pursued leads, which led them to South San Francisco, where they interviewed a person of interest, police said.
“We are continuing to pursue active leads in this case and working tirelessly to identify and apprehend the suspect involved,” police said in a news release Sunday. “At this time, HPD is confident that the suspect fled the scene, and that this incident was specifically targeting the police department.”

Residents in the area of Floribunda Avenue and El Camino Real were asked to shelter in place with doors and windows locked for about seven hours following the shooting, with the advisory lifted after midnight, according to police.
Hillsborough town hall offices were closed for public walk-ins Monday as the investigation continued, and an emergency preparedness information session was postponed.
