PHOTO OF THE DAY: Times Square Kiss Comes to Burlingame
Seniors living at Atria Burlingame revisited a memorable day in 1945.
On Saturday, residents at took a step back in time when a life-size sculpture replicating the famous "Times Square Kiss" photo of a sailor and nurse celebrating the end of World War II made its way into town.
The statue has been touring the country in hopes of inspiring seniors to submit their own photos from the 1940s for a banner, which will be displayed in Times Square on August 14. The statue will eventually end up in Washington, D.C. for the National Memorial Day Parade.
The project is being spearheaded by Spirit of ’45, a grassroots campaign responsible for encouraging Congress to establish a day in honor of the “greatest generation,” celebrated on August 14 in conjunction with the 1945 day when President Truman declared the end of World War II.
