This week, the Burlingame Elementary School District Board of Trustees passed a resolution recognizing April as National Poetry Month throughout the district.
The Academy of American Poets first declared April National Poetry Month in 1996 in order to honor poetry and the impact it has on American culture, education and economy.

They aimed to make poetry an integral part of American life and education. The board requested that schools implement appropriate poetry lessons in commemoration of the month.
