Shopping For A Cause

Shop at a discount while giving back this weekend, and maybe make a few dollars of your own.

Do you have some shopping to do? Why not shop while giving back to the community at the Just Between Friends third semi-annual kids’ consignment sale this weekend.

At the San Mateo Event Center on Friday, March 9 through Sunday, March 11, local moms will resale items for the benefit of local charities providing for homeless children and families on the Peninsula.

Burlingame-based , and , as well as Family and Children Services Santa Clara County, will all benefit from the sale, where shoppers get up to 90 percent off retail prices and sellers keep up to 65 percent of their sales.

“At last fall’s event, I outfitted my two boys for the entire winter at a fraction of what I would have paid in the stores,” said local mom Jaemie Robins in a statement. “I also earned money re-selling items they had outgrown.”

While benefitting charities and providing shopping and earning opportunities in the community, the sale has a green element, as well. By re-using sale items, shoppers are keeping more materials out of landfills.

“Donations of clothing, toys, household goods and other items provide critical support for homeless children and families,” said Maria Duzon, Communications Manager at Shelter Network in a statement. “We are so grateful for our partnership with Just Between Friends.”

Just Between Friends began in 1997 in Tulsa, Oklahoma when two women hosted a consignment sale for 17 friends. Over the years, the sale grew and the woman began franchising the sale.
