CALABASAS, CA — Shuttered for four years, the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center is set to reopen in March following extensive renovations — with a new name. Moving forward, it will just be known as the Calabasas Community Center.

The center will reopen on Saturday, March 16, Calabasas Mayor Alicia Weintraub said in a recent letter to the community.

The center, a joint venture between Calabasas and Agoura Hills, was closed at the start of the pandemic in 2020 and remained closed after officials found major issues with the building, including a leaky roof.

The price tag for repairs totaled over $1 million.

Calabasas leased Agoura Hills' half interest in the center beginning in 2022. The new name reflects this arrangement: The Calabasas Community Services Department will run day-to-day operations of the facility, which remains co-owned by the two cities, the Acorn reported.

Officials are working on the final stages of renovations to the 30,000-square-foot building, which include roof repair, installation of accessible doors, new paint, updated gym floors, new audio-visual equipment and new amenities, according to the city of Calabasas.

The center includes basketball, volleyball, badminton and pickleball courts, a dance/exercise studio, a rock-climbing wall and a banquet room.
