AT&T Seeks to Upgrade Cell Service Near Lost Hills Road

AT&T wireless has applied for permits to upgrade an existing cell phone tower to provide LTE service in western Calabasas.

The request for a conditional use permit and scenic corridor permit will go before the Communications and Technology Commission at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the City Council Chambers of Calabasas City Hall.

According to a city staff report, the communications company wants to replace existing nine, four-foot tall panel antennas with 12, six-foot tall panel antennas and install new equipment cabinets and a GPS unit on the roof of an office building at 27001 Agoura Road.

LTE service merges voice and data communications into a single, integrated high speed data stream.

The area is zoned for commercial use and the antennas will be screened, the report states. 

The Calabasas City Council enacted a moratorium last spring on considering wireless facility applications while the city drafted a wireless telecommunication facility ordinance.

In July, the council approved an ordinance that governs the placement of cellphone towers and other similar facilities in the community.

Trillium Consulting took over the project in August and submitted new information to conform to requirements of the new ordinance.
