10-Acre Brush Fire Extinguished In Calabasas

CALABASAS, CA — Firefighters extinguished the Oak Fire, a 10-acre blaze that broke out in Calabasas about 9 a.m. Monday, the City of Calabasas said.
The fire broke out about 9 a.m. in "light-to-medium brush," burning along the eastbound 101 Freeway near Las Virgenes, the California Highway Patrol said. It was headed northwest and was driven by strong winds, Malibu Search and Rescue reported.
California Highway Patrol said a closure of the 101 Freeway was "anticipated to happen soon."

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at about 9:30 a.m. for the 101 Freeway due to partial lane closures. California Highway Patrol also closed the on/off ramps for Las Virgenes, the City of Malibu said.
As of 10:15 a.m., the two right lanes of the southbound 101 Freeway remained closed between Chesebro Road and Parkway Calabasas, the City of Malibu said. However, CHP was slowly reopening on-ramps that were previously closed.

Schools within the Las Virgenes Unified School District were not threatened, and students were "safe and in class," according to the school district.
"We are grateful to the fire department and other responding agencies for their quick work," the district Facebook post said.
No structures were immediately threatened.
