Calabasas Installing Plug-In Vehicle Charging Station for Public Use

A ribbon-cutting ceremony the new public PEV charging station will be held August 10 at the Calabasas Civic Center.

CALABASAS, CA - The City of Calabasas is making it easier for Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) users to drive and charge in the community. Calabasas Mayor James R. Bozajian, fellow members of the Calabasas City Council, SCAQMD Board Judy Mitchell, and representatives of the California Energy Commission will take part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new public PEV charging station on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at the Calabasas Civic Center. The public is invited. The station will be located in the City Hall parking lot and is expected to be ready for use in the next few weeks. “The installation of this station is a great step forward in the City’s ongoing goal of encouraging Calabasas residents and businesses to use alternate sources of energy,” said Calabasas City Manager Tony Coroalles.

PEVs contain internal rechargeable battery packs that are charged through electric energy. Electric vehicles provide multiple benefits in the form of cleaner air, lower fuel costs, and reduced reliance on imported oil. In
addition, PEVs have lower maintenance costs because they rely on sturdy electric motors, fewer moving parts, and have no internal combustion engines.

The station was funded through a grant entitled “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure” under the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program (ARFVTP) by the California Energy Commission and is being administered by the South Coast Air Quality District Management. The City of
Calabasas is working to encourage local businesses and other non-residential buildings to install more PEV stations for employee and public use.
