Calabasas Mayor Releases Statement On Gun Violence

Calabasas Mayor David Shapiro released a statement condemning gun violence after two mass shootings claimed 30 lives over the weekend.

CALABASAS, CA — Calabasas Mayor David J. Shapiro released a statement condemning gun violence Sunday in the wake of two mass shootings that claimed 30 lives over the weekend — 21 in El Paso, Texas and nine in Dayton, Ohio.

From Mayor Shapiro:

"We strongly condemn the violence we have seen in the past 24 hours. Hate like this has no place in our country ... or in our City. We must act to lead the effort nationally to stop gun violence. We call upon our nation’s leaders, from the President and Congress, to state and local governments, to enact laws to keep guns away from people who shouldn’t have them. We need to do something. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. As a nation, we know we are better than this and we need to come together as one and unite against evil. Be good to each other."
