City Council Adopts Distracted Driving Awareness Month Campaign

Mayor Fred Gaines warns drivers that the sheriff's station will be cracking down on cellphone talking and texting.

 

The Calabasas City Council adopted a resolution to join the April 2013 Distracted Driving Awareness Month at Wednesday night's meeting.

"We have some people, believe it or not, who text and use the cellphone while they're driving," Mayor Fred Gaines said from the dais. "There's going to be a crackdown this month on that."

Eighty percent of all crashes and 65 percent of all near crashes are now attributed to some form of driver distraction, Gaines said.

"Here's your warning ... The sheriff's going to be looking and if you're on a cellphone and your texting, they're going to pull you over," he said.
