Free Steering Wheel Locks Offered To Hyundai, Kia Owners In Calabasas

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station is offering free steering wheel locks to owners of easy-to-steal cars.

CALABASAS, CA — Do you own a Hyundai or Kia? You could get a free steering wheel lock from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.

The station is offering Hyundai and Kia owners who live in the station's jurisdiction a free lock, while supplies last. That includes residents in Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Westlake Village, Chatsworth Lake Manor, Malibou Lake, Topanga and West Hills.

The giveaway comes after several years of elevated theft of the cars, spurred by social media videos that illustrated the ease at which they can be stolen compared to other makes.

In Los Angeles last year, 34 percent of all stolen vehicles were Hyundai or Kia models, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. For comparison, the two brands together make up about 10 percent of the U.S. vehicle market.
