A road crew from L.A. County's Department of Public Works made surprisingly quick work of a rock slide that had completely blocked a major road today between Malibu and the San Fernando Valley, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
"I'm surprised, but yes, they have already cleared the road," CHP Officer Monica Posada said.
The slide, which had completely blocked both north and southbound lanes of Malibu Canyon Road and Las Virgenes Road just before the tunnel, was reported at 6:53 a.m., Posada said.
The rock slide backed up holiday traffic on those roads, as well as Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Canyon Road, according to Posada.
A SigAlert was declared by the CHP at 7:52 a.m., she said. The road was cleared and the SigAlert cancelled at 8:42 a.m., she said.
The boulders were cleared away by a crew from L.A. County Road Maintenance, Posada said. L.A. County Road Maintenance is a division within the county's Department of Public Works, according to its website.
