Arrest Made In Shooting Threat Against Calabasas High School
A 17-year-old was arrested in Tennessee in connection with a social media threat made against Calabasas High School.
CALABASAS, CA — Sheriff's detectives arrested a 17-year-old boy in Tennessee in connection with an online shooting threat made against Calabasas High School Thursday.
Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Detectives used department resources and tools to identify a teen in Jackson, Tennessee, believed to be responsible for a social media post threatening a shooting at the school.
"The Madison County Sheriff's Department followed up information provided by LASD, made contact with the subject at 8:30 a.m. and continued the investigation, which resulted in the arrest of a juvenile for making a threat to the school's student body," the LASD Malibu/Lost Hills Station said in a morning press release. "There were no weapons associated with the subject, who did not appear to have any intention to carry out the threat."

There was extra security at Calabasas High School Thursday as detectives investigated the threat made on social media against the school. LASD deputies were at the school as a precautionary measure. During that time, authorities worked to determine whether the post was credible and who posted it, according to a deputy at the sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills Station.
"The investigation is in the early stages, and as of now, the threat assessments have not indicated any related credible threat," according to a sheriff's statement.

"However, LASD treats these incidents seriously. In addition to researching web and social media information, if necessary, investigators will conduct location searches in an attempt to gather as much information as possible to determine the validity of the potential threat. School officials have been notified, and an investigation is ongoing."

"Malibu/Lost Hills (Station) detectives are vigorously investigating and conducting threat assessments provided by the concerned residents," the sheriff's statement said. "The threat assessment consists of investigative methods to track down the origin of the posted online threats."
