CALABASAS, CA — The Calabasas Senior Center recently secured a grant to bring the city the Arthritis Foundation's Walk With Ease program to create walking groups for people with and without arthritis.

The center applied and was approved for a grant from the National Recreation and Parks Association, according to Mayor David Shapiro. The program is scheduled to start in Calabasas in April, Shapiro said in his letter to the community Friday.

Walk With Ease is a program by the Arthritis Foundation that includes a guidebook and walking schedule to help people with arthritis build strength and motivation, according to the foundation's website. The program is designed to reduce pain and discomfort, increase balance and strength, build confidence and improve overall health.

With the grant, the center will get two instructor trainings and materials for the program.

"The Arthritis Foundation’s Walk With Ease Program is a community-based physical activity and self-management education program. While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease is a multi-component program that also includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational strategies," the Arthritis Foundation said on its website.
