Elderly Woman Killed in Live Oak Crash
The deadly accident marked the third fatal crash in the region Monday.

A 78-year-old Santa Cruz woman driving in Live Oak on Monday afternoon apparently suffered a medical emergency that led to her crashing her vehicle and dying, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The woman, whose name was not released pending notification of next of kin, was driving eastbound on Felt Street near 24th Avenue around 3:25 p.m. when she became incapacitated, the CHP reported.
Her 1998 Toyota Corolla continued moving forward, then veered off the road and down a shrub- and brush-covered embankment. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
Officers are investigating the accident.
Monday was a deadly day on roads in and around Santa Cruz County. A 21-year-old Concord man died before dawn when his car went off Highway 17 and slammed into a tree near the Pasatiempo exit. Later in the morning, fire crews traveling on Highway 9 near the Santa Cruz-Santa Clara county line discovered a truck down a steep slope. The driver, still inside, was dead.
