Fish were running Friday afternoon and fishing boats and birds were following. There were so many birds on the stretch of beach between Seacliff and Capitola you could barely see through them.
And they made a noise that sounded like a storm as they hit the water and popped back up into the air.
It was a similar scene, right here, that inspired Alfred Hitchcock, who had a home in the Santa Cruz Mountains, to create the movie The Birds.
