Cerritos High Wind Symphony Earns Silver at London Celebration Music Festival

After months of intense practices in preparation for a once in a lifetime chance to perform at the London 2012 Olympics, the Cerritos High School Wind Symphony was awarded silver during a concert festival in London on Friday afternoon.

The group was the first of five groups to perform in the July 27 London celebration musical festival -- an adjudicated concert at Central Hall Westminster in Central London. The ensemble was the only group of student musicians from the United States invited to participate in the concert. A choral group from Northern California also took part in the festivities. 

The Cerritos High musicians earned a silver for their performance, according to CHS parent-trip chaperone, Stella Marin.

Since departing for their 9-day adventure to Paris-London on July 21, the group has already performed twice -- in a July 24 outdoor concert at the Champs de Mars Bandst near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, and during the United Nations Association Event at Central Hall Westminster on July 26.

The ensemble is scheduled for two more performances before their trip wraps up:

• on Saturday, July 27 at the main Bandstand inside Olympic Park; and,
• on Sunday, July 28 the ensemble will be performing as part of the ‘Opening Statement’ – officially opening Olympic Park to the public on that day, leading the procession of the public as they walk through the park to the venues.

The group will return to Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon.
