Officers Run A-Fowl As Chickens Fall Onto Los Angeles Freeway

Los Angeles-area commuters were stuck in traffic Tuesday after live chickens crossed the freeway. It's unclear why they crossed the road.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Los Angeles-area commuters were stuck in traffic Tuesday after live chickens crossed a freeway. The California Highway Patrol reported that a cage holding chickens fell out of a truck around 6 a.m. on southbound Interstate 605 near Interstate 105.

The incident prompted the CHP to issue a SigAlert that lasted about 90 minutes as they gathered the flock. Officers saved 17 chickens but two chickens sadly died, CHP said.

The truck driver was unaware of the incident and kept driving, CHP said.
