Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration at L.A. Coliseum Expected to Draw Thousands of Catholics
Event organizers describe Sunday's celebration as the "largest celebration of the Virgin Mary in a generation."

Tens of thousands of Roman Catholics are expected to fill the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Sunday for a celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the vision of the mother of Jesus who appeared to a native outside Mexico City in 1531 and helped draw millions into the faith.
As many as 100,000 people are expected to attend the free Aug. 5 event, which starts at 3 p.m. and features renowned Mexican singer and telenovela star Pedro Fernandez, Catholic recording artist Danielle Rose, and Irish singer Dana Scallon. Speakers include Archbishop Jose Gomez and Carl Anderson of the Knights of Columbus.
The roughly three-hour program, hosted by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Knights of Columbus, will feature musical performances and prayers led by notables including baseball player Mike Piazza and "Braveheart" producer Steve McEveety, according to the Los Angeles Times.
